05|Restricted Files

Veer

Aadhya had altered the whole chemistry of my brain because this morning she had asked me to hand her all the files related to the assignments that were planned for the Ross Island and all of them failed eventually, and now she wants all the info related to them.

Why?

And the audacity of her to even think that I can ever betray the army by handing over those classified files to her.

But to be very honest I considered it for a minute because she tried bribing me with the info about my brother but I still forced myself to deny her because no matter what I can never betray my job.

I chuckled thinking how she also tried seducing me like she used to all those years ago, the only difference was that at that time it all seemed natural but now that I had already become the victim of her, I can see through her every tactic.

I hated how my body still reacted to her, when she wrapped her arms around my neck and leaned in our lips barely touched and my cock twitched like the fucking traitor it is.

I’m such a whore for her.

Well I do act like one of those whores who can’t live without sex a single minute of their lives whenever she’s near me and my lungs filled with that sweet seductive smell of her perfume.

I hate my body at this point, it’s like it is not mine anymore, it belongs to her whenever she touches me or she is near me my body reacts explicitly without my consent.

It is so hard to deny her anything.

Only I know how much courage and self control it takes for me to deny her anything.

And here I was sitting in my office behind my desk. All the files related to Ross Island I could find scattered in front of me while I tried digging through each of those thick files like a man possessed, trying to figure out what she wanted to know about that island.

Because as far as I know she has only met my brother two or maybe three times and she’d vanished before his death so in my opinion they were never that close for her to find the truth about his death.

Also in that club the previous night she’d told me to stay away from that island specifically which points in only one direction that she’s directly related to that island and she doesn’t want me to find out.

My eyes widened, “Is—Is she related to my brother’s death?” I whispered to myself.

I don’t know yet but if she’s really one of the killers, I wouldn’t show any ounce of mercy to her once I find out.

“Sir, one of the new interns was caught sneaking into the conference room.” My junior told me and I stood up so fast that the chair nearly fell behind me.

Aadhya? Can’t be her, she’s too smart to be making such rookie mistakes.

I walked past the junior and stopped directly in front of the conference room’s door.

It was the conference room where the most classified meetings of the base were conducted and no one except some senior officers were allowed near it.

Then my eyes fell on the trembling girl who was sprawled on the floor crying hysterically.

It wasn’t Aadhya and I shut my eyes inhaling in relief which vanished as soon as it appeared.

I looked around and there was no trace of her but my gut feeling told me she definitely has to do something with it.

Forcing myself back in control I grabbed Zainab’s arms and yanked her back on her feet.

My grip was almost bruising no matter how much I tried to stay calm, her cries intensified.

“What were you doing here?” I growled which seemed to scare her even more, God it was annoying.

“Who sent you?” My voice was still firm but I forced the anger down my throat.

“N-No one” Her voice was trembling and I noticed her eyes wandering around like she was searching for someone, I could see the fear in her eyes but fear of what?

“Detain her.” I commanded, pushing her towards one of the junior soldiers who obeyed instantly.

I observed how she still didn’t say anything and didn't beg me to spare her like most people would. She just bowed her head and walked away with the soldier, fishy.

I pinched the bridge of my nose, my eyes closed. When I opened them and the halfway was empty again, I also turned to leave when my eyes met a pair of deep, hazel—brown eyes.

Aadhya?

I walked up to that corner and checked it twice…There was no one there.

Maybe I had imagined it. I shook my head and went back to my office.

Sitting back in my chair all I could focus on was only one thought, Adhya’s involvement in whatever happened outside the conference room and the fact that I hadn’t encountered her all day after our conversation, more like an argument in the morning where she’d tried blackmailing me for the files.

“Did she say anything?” I asked Captain Aakash, who I had entrusted with this case, when he entered my office.

“She said she doesn’t know what we are talking about exactly and she was just exploring the base.” His voice was stern yet respectful.

“What do you think?” I asked scribbling into a file.

“She’s lying.” She replied without hesitation.

“How do you know?” My eyes finally lifted to meet his.

“Her body language.” I raised my eyebrow at his answer as he continued, “The way her hands were shaking while I was interrogating her, the way she didn’t dare to meet my eyes even once, the way she hesitated before answering my questions.

“She can be scared.” He chuckled at my response.

“Sir I may not be as experienced as you yet but I happen to know just enough to differentiate between fear and hesitation.” Really an officer trained by me.

“You can go.” I brought my focus back to the file in front of me. He left after saluting me.

I twirled my pen in one hand while my chin rested on the other. My eyebrows drew together as I fell deep into my thoughts.

I needed to interrogate Zainab personally. I concluded closing the file in front of me as I stood up and went straight to the interrogation room where Zainab was.

She was eating a steamed bun with trembling hands while the tea cup sat untouched on the table in front of her.

I opened the door and entered inside. She looked up at the sound of my boots against the floor.

Her eyes filled up at just the sight of me, “S-Sir I don’t know anything. Please—Please save me.” She wailed as tears slipped down her cheeks.

“For that you have to tell me everything you know.” I took a seat in front of her.

“S-Sir I don’t know much but I got a text last night.” I straightened at that.

“It had the video footage of my sister tied up in a chair, she was crying begging me to save her,” She took a deep breath. “She—She told me that they will kill her if I don’t obey their orders.”

“Who? Did she tell you who kidnapped her?” I asked and she shook her head in response.

“What did they tell you to do?”

“They just told me to go to that restricted conference room.”

“Did they tell you to steal any information from there?” She shook her head again.

It confused me, why would they kidnap her sister just to tell her to go to a restricted area and not do anything.

Were they trying to divert attention? My eyes widened in shock instantly, yes…While this whole ruckus was going on everyone except Aadhya was there in front of the conference room.

Fuck, I stood up and ran back to my office when the realization dawned at me.

I barged in and started digging through the shelf where I had kept those files…

They weren't there anymore.

I searched through my whole office and still couldn’t find them.

Did Aadhya steal them?

But can she really kidnap an innocent girl just to steal some files? And despite the betrayal my heart was not ready to accept that Aadhya, the girl I grew up with, was capable of such cruelty.

I fished out my phone from my pocket and called her, she answered at the third ring.

“Where are you?” I asked not, giving her a chance to greet me.

“Home.” She replied and I tried observing the sound of her voice. It didn’t give her away.

“Did you ask any senior before leaving?”

“Yes.”

“Who?”

“Captain Aakash.”

I hung up without asking any further questions.

I called Captain Aakash into my office. He saluted me, “Did Aadhya ask you for a leave.”

“Yes sir.” The reply came instantly.

“Reason?”

“She was having a really bad headache.”

Head ache? And she didn’t tell me and told my junior instead. She knows my head massages work best on her headaches, I’ll deal with her tomorrow.

“You can leave.” I murmured, clearing my throat.

If not her then who? Wait, I have a hidden camera installed. I logged in on my desktop and browsed the footage. There was a little five second footage of someone entering my cabin in my absence exactly at the time I was at the conference room scene. Then the screen went black.

“Damn it.” I slammed the laptop shut.

How can I be so clueless due to my mistake such a small one, I had lost the source that might have helped me in giving justice to my brother and the masked figure in the footage though he or she was fully covered, head to toe they weren’t Aadhya because even If I go blind someday I could still recognise her by only touching her.

I know every inch of her body, it wasn’t her…Then who?

The thought consumed me because it was impossible for any civilian to enter this place let alone terrorists, it means the traitor is inside the base and it’s not Aadhya.

I was relieved more than furious that it wasn’t Aadhya who stole the files and whoever it was I am gonna find out soon.

And when I do, that traitor will regret ever being born in the same timeline as me.
